RYA Day Skipper Practical
Please note you do NOT have to do the Day Skipper Theory course before commencing the Day Skipper Practical. It is the RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate that enables you to charter yachts worldwide!
This five day course is aimed at sailors with crewing experience. This course covers boat handling under sail and power; it develops skills in weather and tidal interpretation, pilotage, passage planning, sail handling, skippering and managing emergency situations. Ultimately you will learn to take charge and skipper a yacht by day in familiar waters. Experience required: five days and four night hours sailing, with 100 miles logged. Day skipper theory or theoretical knowledge is an advantage.
Pre-course experience: 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht
Assumed knowledge: Basic navigation and helmsmanship
Course content: Pilotage, boat handling, seamanship & navigation
Ability after course: Can skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day
Minimum duration: 5 days, either 5 days midweek or Two 2 day weekends and One 3 day weekend
Typical Cost: £400 - £500
